The Rainwater Tank Rebates... What You Really Need to Know...
Thanks to the Australian Government & Local Councils, owning a quality rainwater tank has never been easier or more affordable.
Now you can own a quality rainwater tank and receive a generous rebate towards the costs!
FACT: Up to 40% of a household's water use can be replaced with rainwater.
There are a number of rainwater tank rebates available depending on your location and situation. Generally the tank(s) must have a minimum 2000-litre capacity and must be purchased in full and installed between certain dates.
Rous Water Rebate - Eligibility
- The applicant is an owner or managing agent of the property where the tank is to be installed.
- The property is currently connected to the town water supply in the Ballina, Byron, Lismore and Richmond Valley local government areas.
- The applicant is able to show proof of purchase of the tank dated on or after 1 July 2010.
- The tank and installation satisfy the tank volume and/or connection requirements as per the Table of Rebates above.
- The rainwater tank/s is/are not installed in order to comply with the BASIX requirements for new development.
New homes: Tanks installed in order to comply with the BASIX requirements for new development are not eligible for the rebate. This is because the rebate was introduced to encourage the installation of rainwater tanks by existing town water users.
Older tanks: Tanks purchased prior to 1 July 2010 are no longer eligible for a rebate and previous applicants are not eligible to apply for the current rebate, unless additional tank capacity has been installed.
Rous Water - How much is the rebate?
The rebate is based on the size of the tank and whether the rainwater is plumbed into your toilet and or washing machine.
How do I apply?
You apply for the rebate after your tank has been installed and any plumbing work is completed. We will post out the application forms to you. If you have any questions please give us a call.
